Makes sense.
If everyone in the congregation is mind-numbingly boring, the speakers might seem interesting.
Naaaaah, probably not.
are you bland enough?
just incredible imho.

so this weekend my girlfriend and i will move into our own place together.
it turns out that “a cord of three strands is stronger” is bullshit and two people in a relationship are perfectly capable of being happy without outside influence.
what a journey i’ve had since leaving 3 and a half years ago!
Congratulations.
A Born In coming into the world. Born into freedom, curiosity and rational education that is!
Well done.
i don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.
Under No - Sanvean was in a great West Wing episode.
Chill worthy for sure.
Yes I remember the episode.
I think the combination of the music and the image of the sheer mass of lit candles and flowers being laid out for Zoey Bartlett was a double chill moment. Inspired soundtrack choice.
i'm 43 and a divorced mother of 2. in january 2019 i met the man i thought i could spend the rest of my life with.
we were happy and even though our relationship wasn't perfect (like all relationships) i thought we had a chance and were building a life together with our young kids.
background on me - i've been divorced since 2012 after 12 years of marriage.
As much as you don't currently think this - you have had a close call and you're getting a second chance. Some pain now is a lot better than what would have come later.
Have nothing to do with anyone associated with JW in any way and your life automatically improves, or is at less risk of being ruined.
It's like you've hopped off (or been pushed off) a train at the last minute and that train unbeknownst to you was on it's way to a concentration camp.

The 'goosebumps' sensation when hearing some music (or watching some film for that matter) is a real thing, known as a Tingle Quotient (TQ)
The most well known and famous of these is probably the 'climax' of Nessum Dorma, the penultimate sustained high B note of 'Vincero!"
My most palpable TQ is Sanvean by Dead Can Dance. Considering Lisa Gerard basically invented a language to serve as the vehicle for the music is remarkable.
In my life there have many TQ moments, especially musically, but listen to this. To me, its a moving reminder that the most powerful musical instrument will always be the human voice.

so, it's been said before how the left ends up eating its own.. and now we have the case of star wars actress - can i say 'actress'?
- daisy ridley ('rey').. in a recent guardian article, she essentially denies her privilege by saying that her star wars co-star john boyega ('finn') is just as privileged as she is.. daisy ridley descends from the fitz-corbetts (landed gentry) on her mother's side; her paternal grandfather was high up in the bbc and she went to a fee-paying school.
and john boyega grew up on a peckham council estate.
How is she part of 'The Left' exactly?
here is a man named jerry.
on a public sidewalk, he asks attendees leaving a jehovah's witness convention in san diego a simple question, ''do jehovah's witnesses have the truth.
not one person acknowledges him.
Jerry looks to be outside Qualcomm Stadium, the location of the only outdoor convention I attended.
On the Sunday afternoon I was waiting at the bottom of one of the ramps and observed several sisters being positioned around exits to man 'donation points'. It was stinking hot and oppressive and after a few minutes one of the clearly uncomfortable sisters located a nearby chair and pulled it to her station.
An elder raced over and jerked it off her, so she had to continue to stand in the heat. Hardly anyone came over to donate, people were ignoring them and just milling around waiting for their rides so they could get the hell out of there.
The sisters looked bored beyond belief, bedraggled, resentful, tired. I actually cringed watching their discomfort,
It was a strong 'This Is Pathetic' moment for me.
...there are very few if any, that i would have willingly associated with.. my 'worldly(tm)' friends are all brilliant people.
they are nothing like the weirdos i had to put up with in the congregations.. what is your take on the people in the jobos as opposed to your associates now?.
I think as we age, most of us reduce our circle of friends, sometimes deliberately, mostly just through attrition.
When we are younger our insecurities and our need to belong makes having lots of friends, and making sure we get invited to whatevers happening etc, seem important. We are joiners and our self esteem can be dependent on the size and status of our social groups.
I've traded that for quality over quantity and wish I had done it sooner.
Back closer to the topic, JWs act in this regard exactly as if they are in a cult - they need like minds to reassure them that their crazy beliefs are real, so everyone that shares that view is a friend. Everyone that doesn't - essentially doesn't exist. That the only people they choose to associate with beyond a superficial level are other JWs is sad beyond belief when it splits families and former friends.
As someone said, some good people trapped. But, unless born in, they chose that trap, so I don't waste too much sympathy on them. I met some well-intentioned people, as I knew I would, but in this case the path to madness was paved with good intentions.
I cant really think of any that I could see myself being friends with. The ideologies are just too opposing.
As always, its the born ins I genuinely feel for. It's child abuse via the imposition of a harmful lifestyle and mind conditioning.
many years ago, we lived in a world where the one tv in your house might be black and white, perhaps color if you were lucky, but either way the screen was small and the arial on your house would struggle to deliver a decent signal but often fail in a fuzzy mess.
most of the movies you saw were old, there was no home video or rental - you got a chance to see something and then it was gone.
planning your viewing was important to make sure you didn't miss something so you'd carefully scan the tv guide to pick out your favourites ... good job there were only 2 or 3 channels to look through.. but you could still see quality if you went to the movie theatre and there you got to see glorious film on a giant screen (which is only now being equalled quality wise).
Judy Robinson (Marta Kristen) - Lost In Space. Marta is on the right ;p
Close 2nd - Jane Parmenter (Melody Patterson) - F Troop
all of the local congregations are going to use hourglass app for publishers to report their time.
i’m not sure if this meets privacy laws in our province.
